At last finals weekend has arrived. our thanks go to Brian Moore for running the competitions throughout the season and organising this weekends matches.

First up was a cracker of a game, the mixed singles between Dickie Clarke and Ken Berry. After 24 ends it was anyone's game, but Dickie managed 3 on the next end and won the game. Well done both players for a very entertaining game.

Next up we had the Ladies two wood singles between Sonia Moore and Joan Kelly. Again this was a thrilling game with Joan going 9-4 up by the 10th end, only for Sonia to step up her game and bring the score to 12 - 9 in her favour by the 15th end.

Joan dug deep and started pulling back the shots eventually winning 17 - 13 on end 21.

Congratulations to both ladies for a thrilling game.

.........

Sunday morning saw the men's over 60s final between Dennis Blackwell and Dickie Clarke. Was Dickie fatigued from his game yesterday he certainly started slowly, but no once he found his weight he was all over the jack giving Dennis no mercy. Some good bowls were played with both players resting on the jack only to be moved off by the following players next bowl. In the end Dickie stormed away and took his second victory of the weekend.

Congratulations to both players for another exciting game.

Sunday morning also saw the Ladies pairs played between Chris Slade & Geraldine Jarrett and Sonia Moore & Margaret Sampson. Wow!! What a close game, Chris and Geraldine edge ahead leading by 11 to 5 on the 10th end, but Sonia and Margaret came back making the score 14 all on the 19th end.

Chris and Geraldine took one on each of the next two ends and seal their victory 16 to 14.

Congratulations to all four players for an edge of the seat game.

First up in the afternoon was the men's un-badged singles which saw Ken Powney and Barry Kerslake play out a match over 23 ends. Barry was always in control leading 11 - 5 on the 10th end. Although Ken brought the score back to 17 - 15 to Barry on the 21st end Barry scored a 3 and a 2 on the next two ends and took a long overdue victory.

Congratulations to both of you for a very entertaining game.

The next game of the afternoon was the ladies singles championship played by Sonia Moore and Chris Slade.

Chris and Sonia had played against each other as leads in the ladies pairs this morning, so by now they knew each others game. At 8 ends the game was tied at 6 shots each, but then Chris turned the screw hitting Sonia with a couple of fours and a three. Sonia tried to fight back scoring a couple of singles but by the 17 end Chris had reached 21 and the title was hers.

Congratulations to you both, for a fantastic game.

Finally we arrived at the men's singles championship game, this year played between Bob Pulsford and Dickie Clarke, his third final of the weekend. By now Dickie was firing on all cylinders and no matter how close Bob got to the jack Dickie came in and stole it. The score sheet does not reflect how hard Bob fought but in the end Dickie was just on fire.

Congratulations to you both and thank you for a display of excellent bowling.

Monday 10-9-18

Not even Mr. Wonderful could have managed 4 finals in one weekend, so when Dickie Clarke found himself in that position too it was inevitable that one game had to be played on Monday afternoon. That final was the two wood singles and Dickies opponent was Dennis Blackwell, who Dickie had beaten on Sunday morning in the over 60's. Dennis is not only something of a two wood specialist but he was looking for revenge for yesterdays defeat. The game started slowly with never more than one shot in it until the 10th end when Dennis took control only allowing Dickie to win 2 more ends. And so by end 20 the match was won by Dennis.

Congratulations to both players, the members who gave up their afternoon to come and watch were not disappointed by the skill on display.
