Five days in Torquay
Tiverton West End Bowling Club
On a cold wet Monday morning West End members and friends met at Tiverton bus station for our now annual trip to the Toorak hotel in Torquay.
No sooner had we arrived at the Toorak and settled into our rooms than the RED team were out on the carpet for their first game against Hounslow pink. A close match, two rinks winning, one draw and one lost, overall the Reds coming out on top.
The BLUE team had their first game later that evening, not against West Backwell as they thought, but Kings who stepped in to cover for West Backwell. Again a close match two wins each but the Blues winning overall.
Just time for a quick change before the first of our excellent evening meals.
First thing Tuesday morning the Reds played Hounslow Blue, who it would seem like playing in the morning. The Reds went down three to one and lost overall.
The Blues followed playing Hounslow Green, with the same result.
Still raining outside, never mind plenty of activities within the hotel complex.
We met up just before dinner for a drinks reception and catch up on the days events.
Midday Wednesday and it was the Reds turn to play West Backwell, who turned up this time.
Well maybe not as the Reds went on to win on all four rinks, well done Reds.
In the afternoon it was the Blue's turn to play Hounslow Blue. A very close match overall but Blue's lost on three rinks, winning on one and losing overall. Nevertheless it was a good friendly game.
Wednesday night was 10 pin bowling, the ladies challenging the men. The men just winning.
Mid-morning Thursday it was the Reds turn to play Hounslow red, their best team and it showed. We did manage to win on one rink but lost on the other three and overall.
The Blues played early afternoon against Oxford Tourists unfortunately losing on all four rinks.
What a busy evening followed, another drinks reception before dinner followed by the return 10 pin bowling match. I think the ladies must have cheated as the men were well beaten, but for sure everyone enjoyed the evening.
Fridays match was the serious one the REDS against the BLUES.
The Reds already had the better shot average over the four days play. Could the Blues win this one. Well one rink did but the Reds won on the other three making them winners overall.
Well done the Reds and for that matter the Blues as well. What a great five days bowling and fun away with friends, I'm already looking forward to next year.
