On a fine sunny afternoon members of Tiverton West End Bowling Club met at "The Green" for the seasons end, Presidents Day bowls drive.

Before play got underway retiring President Ken Berry presented a cheque for £1000.00 to Gloria Payge from Pete's Dragons, a Devon based charity offering suicide bereavement support, the clubs charity for 2019.

The money having been raised by both the West End Warblers, the club's male voice choir and through fines imposed on members for such things as wrong bias deliveries and losing rinks.

On receiving the cheque, Gloria gave us a brief outline of Pete's Dragons work with the bereaved.

This is for people who have been affected by a suicide in their family or community and thanked us very much for the donation.

Once the formalities were over we were able to begin the bowls drive, which was as usual, organised by Michael Willavoys.

Three rounds of riotous fun bowling followed with a break for a wonderful buffet, which Ken and his family and friends provided.

The raffle raised £88.00 towards next years charity.

And so finally Michael worked out that Martin Stevens had won the bowls drive and the wooded spoon (bowl) went to Steve Butt, but in truth it did not matter who won or came second, everyone had had an enjoyable afternoons bowling with fellow members, a nice buffet and the odd glass of cider.
